The current legal framework for the protection of minors from harmful media content is in desperate need of an update. Politicians, companies and also child protection experts all agree on this. But what measures are necessary in order to ensure that the law for the protection of minors from harmful media content is up to date in Germany? Are bans and access barriers still the right means to protect children and young people online in the digital age? Which requirements for recognised youth protection programs are still feasible in the context of international applicability? Where is the competence of children, adolescents and parents required? What can the gaming industry and companies do?
