Gaming moves mountains – the integrative potential of games

Billions of people all over the world – with very diverse cultural backgrounds and living standards – love digital games. Since playing games both with and against each other is increasingly happening online, written and verbal communication not only determines victory and defeat but also the quality of the human experience during the game. Games build bridges, overcome differences and create unusual friendships. At the same time, however, game content can also promote and reinforce opinions about cultures and social minorities. As part of the cooperation with the “Cultural Integration Initiative” and the German Cultural Council, the panel discusses the integrative power of computer games as a shared, cross-cultural experience and the opportunities and challenges in an increasingly diversifying society.
